Cholesterol

Important Points on Cholesterol

The key to an in depth understanding of HDL, LDL, Triglycerides and Total Cholesterol is in the ratios. Otherwise, you have a superficial analysis and perhaps a doctor trying to put you on needless medication!

Here they are:

(Note: / means "divided by" like a fraction)

HDL / Total Cholesterol

Ideal: > 0.24

HDL / LDL

Ideal > 0.4

Triglyceride / HDL

Ideal < 2.0

If the lab report reverses the order, do not let that throw you off. It is only like reversing the numerator and denominator!
